How we serve

Our Role

Oversight and service in six key areas: church policies, missions, human relations, administrative operations, special projects/initiatives, and resources.

About us

The Secretariat office of the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division (SID) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is responsible for maintaining proper church records, managing statistics, and overseeing human resource management. The office ensures effective administration and service to the church community by upholding core values and conducting regular training.

Our core values

God-Fearing: We recognize that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Most High is understanding. This foundational belief guides our actions and decisions.

Professionalism: We strive for a high skill level and treat people’s records with utmost privacy. Professionalism to us means competence, knowledge, integrity, conscientiousness (reliability), emotional intelligence, respect, appropriateness, and confidence.

Integrity: We uphold high standards of integrity in all our actions. Our beliefs and behaviors are aligned, making us genuine in our service and commitments.

Respect: We encourage politeness to everyone and espouse good manners. Respecting others involves taking their needs into account and helping uphold their dignity and rights.

Conscientiousness: We are organized, honor our commitments, and learn from our mistakes. We take personal accountability seriously, ensuring reliability in our actions.

Teamwork: We value collaboration and the contribution of every individual. By working together, we achieve our goals and support each other’s efforts.

Communication: We communicate openly and objectively to be effective in our work. Regular and clear communication is key to our success.

Accountability: We are accountable to each other and to the organization. We take personal responsibility for our actions and their results.

Timeliness: We strive to be timely in what we do, balancing our desire for speed with diligent care to ensure accuracy.

Dedication: We are dedicated to the mission of the church, our secretariat vision, and our core values.

Passion: We are passionate about saving souls for the kingdom of God. This passion drives our commitment and actions.

Nurture and Retention

Another key function of the Secretariat office is the nurturing and retention of newly baptized members. We recognize the importance of supporting and integrating new members into the church community. This is achieved through:

Ongoing Education: Providing continuous spiritual education and Bible study to deepen their understanding and faith.

Mentorship Programs: Pairing new members with experienced church members who can guide and support them in their spiritual journey.

Community Involvement: Encouraging new members to participate in church activities and community service, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose.

Regular Follow-Up: Maintaining regular contact with new members to address their needs, answer questions, and provide encouragement.

Support Groups: Organizing support groups where new members can share their experiences and grow together in faith.

By nurturing and retaining new members, the Secretariat office helps strengthen the church community, ensuring that every individual feels valued and supported in their spiritual journey.

The Secretariat office of the SID is committed to upholding these values and functions, ensuring effective administration, and fostering a strong, united church community dedicated to the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
